New functionality for the manufacturing app
Overview
Designed feature is part of one of a new generation of cloud-based software applications for the complex manufacturing industry that offers a variety of off-the-shelf applications.
Context and Challenge
Is a new feature in the application that is responsible for delivering manufactured goods for shipment. The shipping process consists of several processes based on orders created by the user and the system. The functionality will be used by qualified planners to manage production and warehouse operators.
Design Process
The process began with a review of the requirements with the product owners, an attempt to segment and partially redefine the requirements. Since the project was being prepared by two owners,
it was required to align the two visions into one complete project.
The next step was to create two user flows for two different personas and prepare documentation
for all possible feature life scenarios.
Once the first drawing was approved, prototypes were created, separately for different users
and tested internally with engineers within the company.
After the development process was completed, the functionality was tested by the client
in a production environment, and work is currently underway to improve it.
Results
All complete functionality was designed and developed along with the required functionality for MVP. Customers are able to cover basic shipping needs in their production process. The functionality works flawlessly in terms of communication between engineers and other applications dedicated to warehouse workers. The released version of the functionality has been well received by customers. However, there are still improvements that can be made and not all functionality has been well addressed.
What Could be Improved?
Due to the lack of time, the high pace of the launch and lack of openness of the management team, not all the processes that needed to be done were completed.
